2009 VIKING CLASSIC
STANDARD BEARERS GENERAL INFORMATION
• CLOTHING: You are required to wear your volunteer t-shirt with your badge clipped on it. Adult volunteers must wear the regular volunteer golf shirt, which is available for $26 plus tax in the Annandale pro shop. You may wear shorts or long pants, but they must be khaki-colored. Wear comfortable running/walking shoes; golf shoes are permitted if they have soft spikes, but most folks find running/walking shoes to be more comfortable. If you want to wear a hat it MUST be a Viking Classic volunteer hat, which can be purchased in the Annandale pro shop. They have visors as well as baseball-style caps. You will NOT be able to carry an umbrella. Ponchos are a good choice if it’s rainy.
• TIME is very important in a PGA TOUR tournament – bring a watch; remember, no cell phones.
• PARKING is in Lot B across from the 3rd hole – hang your yellow parking pass from your rear-view mirror. LEAVE CELL PHONES AND PAGERS IN YOUR CAR. THEY ARE PROHIBITED AT THE TOURNAMENT.
• THE SIGN you will carry has the names of the golfers you will be walking with along with numbers that you will put up after each hole is played. You will walk all 18 holes with these golfers. There will be a walking scorer with you, also. He or she can help you with any questions about the numbers, score, etc. You will have a pouch which contains the numbers lined up in order 0-9 ( 6's and 9's are interchangeable). Black numbers are over par and red numbers are under par. When you are carrying the sign, face it towards the gallery.
• STAND STILL and hold the sign steady when the golfers are hitting a shot or putting; you don't want to distract them. If they talk to you first, you can talk to them, but don’t start the conversation yourself. Most of them are very friendly, but remember that they are there to do their job.
• WATER and/or SPORTS DRINKS will be available on the tee of each hole, but wait until after the golfers have teed off and are walking down the fairway before you get a drink. Wait on the caddies as well. Light snacks are usually available on the #1 and #10 tee boxes.
• LUNCH will be provided in the volunteer tent. You will be given a food voucher that will be good for one free meal provided in the volunteer tent.
• AFTER YOUR ROUND is over come straight back to the volunteer tent and turn in your sign and numbers pouch. Please keep your numbers pouch with your sign.
• SATURDAY TEE TIMES will be posted on the website by 7:30 or so on Friday night, and Sunday tee times by 7:30 or so on Saturday night, or you may call us at home.
